We firstly carried out our in depth analysis of the clients needs and aspirations for their home to fully gauge the clients’ brief and to understand the likley costs of the construction.
Our clients for this Cambuslang Extension Design Project knew that they wanted to create a generous new open plan kitchen dining living space at the rear of their home.
The clients wanted the new space to open visually and physically onto their rear garden space to increase thier sense of connection with the garden.
The new space would take full advantage of the southerly aspect and to feel a stronger connection between internal space and external space.
On the first floor our clients knew that they wanted to give their master bedrrom a generous ensuite and also create and ensuite for bedroom Two.
This meant that the existing rear bedroom would become the space for the new ensuites and storage and the new bedroom two would occupy the new first floor extension.
To avoid having a clunky two/one storey contemporary extension we chose to design the two storey element as a traditional sandstone building.
The rear of the house has a two storey gable extension to tie in with the existing. the glazing to the rear also captures the asymmetrical quirkiness of the original design but adds in the contemporary feature of the corner bi-fold glazing.
We matched the materials, windows and roof details exactly with the original building.
The single storey element then became a classic contemporary style extension which becomes the jewel and the focus.
This Allison Architects Cambuslang project was constructed by Staveley Construction who did an excellent job. The project was finishes on budget and on time thanks to Stephen and his team.
The Bespoke Kitchen was supplied and fitted by Maxwell’s of Scotland and is the most finely crafted kitchen we’ve ever seen.
