Allison Architects Hamilton Extension Design

The Brief

Allison Architects Hamilton clients asked us to create designs for a one and a half storey extension and conversion of the existing loft of a classic traditional bungalow.

Project Overview

This Allison Architects Hamilton project was divided into two parts; firstly the client required a rear extension and secondly they required a loft conversion. Working with a bungalow, our architects converted the loft and added a single storey rear extension. This enabled us to design two new upstairs bedrooms including a master with en-suite taking advantage of the new, front facing dormer window.

The Design

To the ground floor of the property we designed a large, open plan kitchen diner and removed the stud wall between the original rear bedroom to create a large, open living space. Bi-fold doors were also included in the design which would open out on to a raised terrace area. We also needed to design a new staircase to reach the new space upstairs. We worked in close collaboration with the client to create a bespoke staircase with glass balustrades. The stairs would curve around providing a great backdrop for a wood burning stove and storage area for logs.
