Glasgow Ski and Snowboard Centre Extension

Project Overview

Allison Architects were asked to develop designs for the extension of the Glasgow Ski and Snowboard Centre in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow.

The Brief

The club appointed Allison Architects to design a large single storey extension to the existing building. The extension would provide a generous open-plan equipment rental area for visitors to queue and change.

Work had already commenced to create the lower level with concrete retaining walls and a concrete slab roof. This had been used as an external seating area for several years.

Our brief was to devise a design which could simply sit on top of the existing structure

Project Description

The extension is located to the side of the existing building and incorporates large folding sliding doors facing out to the ski slopes. These doors are the primary route to and from the slopes to the new space.

The new building had to closely match with the existing which included the bell roof which matched the existing profile exactly.

We incorporated a large roof lantern skylight to give a central focus to the space and create visual impact.
