Gartcosh Extension by Allison Architects Glasgow

Our client in Gartcosh invited several architects to bid for this fantastic project. Between two choices of architects. Glasgow based architects Allison Architecture were picked.

We were asked to replace an existing conservatory with a high specification flat roof  house extension in Gartcosh near Glasgow.

We used western red cedar timber cladding and Z-clad sandstone random rubble course natural stone to give a real tactile feel to the external walls which would create a warm and textured backdrop to the new patio space.

Velfac windows kept frame widths to an absolute minimum to maximise daylight. Schuco bi fold doors and a pyramid roof light also helped to maximise the feeling of natural light within the space.

The high quality luxurious finish was continued internally with solid oak flooring,  skirtings and fascias. The fireplace was also faced in stone to give the feeling that the hearth was one large stone faced element which stands alone with glazing either side.

The result is a beautifully warm space which captures a rustic Scottish feel with a contemporary twist.

The clients are yet to agree on the hanging of a claymore on the stone wall next to the fire.

Perthshire New Build Housing Development by Allison Architects Glasgow office

Our clients, JDMI brought us this marvellous opportunity to design 4 fantastic 5 bedroom new build houses just outside Aberfeldy.

We have worked with JDMI on a number of projects and work closely with them on many projects in Glasgow. Architects, Allison Architecture, have now delivered three townhouse conversion projects in Glasgow.

Our aim was to develop designs which would take full advantage of the incredible views. We relevelled the site to terrace the houses so that views from houses 1 and 2 would not be obscured by 3 and 4.

We used beautiful Perthshire sandstone and wet dab render along with Natural Slye roofing to give a strong sense of context, permanence and embedded was to the houses.

Internally they would have a luxurious appeal with open fires and wood burning stoves, beautifully appointed en suites and huge amounts of high performance glazing to maximise daylight and views across the mountains.

House Extension Design for Giffnock, Architects, Allison Architecture appointed

Our client has signed off the design proposals for their new house extension in Giffnock, South Glasgow.
We are proposing to create a side extension to the lower ground level of the house, the roof of which forming a sun terrace which would be accessed directly from the new increased size kitchen and existing formal dining room.

We are proposing red Dumfrieshire sandstone to tie in with the stone of the existing house. The issue of overlooking will be approached by the use of sandblasted glass screening, which will give translucence while minimising the visual impact of the build from the neighbouring gardens and windows.

Our next step is to submit for Planning Approval.

We have been in discussions with Gerry Grams, City Design Advisor who has given our project  very positive feedback.

Mr Grams agreed that the project would provide a necessary sense of ownership to a seriously neglected part of Glasgow’s West End.
