This Allison Architects Bearsden project is one of our leading examples of creating our signature classic contemporary style to to create a beautiful extension which sensitively responds to the existing character home.
We firstly carried out our in depth analysis of the clients needs and aspirations for their home to fully gauge the clients’ brief and to understand the likley costs of the construction.
The clients researched heritage homes specialist architects in Bearsden and they decided to work with us at Allison Architects.
The existing house was a bungalow with a loft conversion. The client was looking for a dramatic extension to their Bearsden home which would have a classic design with contemporary feel.
We worked with the client to develop designs and seamlessly coordinate a single storey extension to the rear of the property which created a living space and utility room.
We opened up the existing kitchen by removing the wall which resulted in a large kitchen, diner and living area to complement the existing house.
We used smooth white render to tie in with the exsting building and also used roof tiles to match those of the existing roof.
We developed a terrace design to provide level and seamless access from the new dining room which increases the connectivity between internal and external space.
The terrace has an extensive overhang so that it can be used even when raining so that the clients can make the very most use of the space.
We subtley incorporated a range of materials to provide depth and texture; western red cedar used sparingly on the wall, white tongued and grooved panelling to the under of the roof, white brick to one side of the terrace and rich smooth limestone on the floor.
